#14 UMW Women's Lax Tops Marymount, 13-10, in Regular Season Finale

Seven goals from senior attacker Ashlyn Dacey led the University of Mary Washington women's lacrosse team to a 13-10 win on senior day on Saturday at the Battleground Complex. The Eagles improve to 13-3 overall and 6-2 in Capital Athletic Conference play and secure the #3 seed in next week's conference tournament.

In the first half, Marymount struck first and controlled a 2-0 lead at the 24:10 minute mark. With 16:52 remaining in the half, Dacey scored on a free position shot to cut the lead to one. Holly Hudson scored a minute later to even the score at 2-2.

Marymount added another with 13:22 left in the half to take a 3-2 lead. Mary Washington responded with four unanswered goals to finish the half. The first two came from Julia Albert and Hudson, while Dacey added the last two to give the Eagles a 6-3 advantage.

UMW picked up where they left off in the second half as Dacey scored two more to put the Eagles up 8-3. Mackenzie Maguire added another at the 24:46 mark to extend the lead to 9-3. Dacey then scored her sixth goal of the game just 30 seconds later.

Marymount responded to the Eagles run, scoring two goals to cut the lead to 10-5. The Eagles answered as Albert and Hudson scored again to put the Eagles up seven goals at 12-5. The Saints scored two more to cut the lead back to five before Dacey added her seventh and final goal on her impressive senior day. Marymount scored three goals in the final two minutes to bring the final to 13-10.

UMW led in shots, 35-17, and in draw controls, 14-11. UMW also led in ground balls, 32-18, while Marymount committed 20 turnovers to UMW's 14. Freshman goalie Hannah Ashby recorded four saves for the Eagles.

The Eagles hosts Marymount again on Wednesday for the first round of the CAC Tournament. Game time is set for 4:00 p.m.
