#18 UMW Women's Lacrosse Tops #7 York, 11-6, in CAC Saturday Action

The 18th ranked University of Mary Washington women's lacrosse team broke open a tied game at halftime to defeat seventh-ranked York College of Pa., 11-6, on Saturday in York. The Eagles improve to 11-2 on the season, and 4-1 in Capital Athletic Conference play.

The Spartans took the early advantage, scoring the first two goals of the game, before the Eagles scored four straight. Emily Mott scored with 20:59 remaining, and Mackenzie Maguire scored on a free position shot with 17:12 to go.

Holly Hudson scored three minutes later to give the Eagles the lead, and Sabrina Elliott scored with 11:13 remaining to push the advantage to 4-2. York netted two straight to tie the score, but the Eagles grabbed the lead with 3:02 left on a Kelsey Vincent feed.

York tied the game in the next minute to tie the score at 5-5, which stood as the score at halftime.

After intermission, the Eagles held the Spartans to just one goal, and netting six over the final 30 minutes. Vincent scored to open the scoring with 26:08 left on an Ashlyn Dacey assist, before York tied the score at 6-6 with 22:17 remaining.

Vincent scored to put the Eagles back in front with 15:50 left, and Dacey scored a minute later to up the lead to 8-6. Elliott scored with 7:51 left, and Vincent scored with 6:41 to go on a man-up chance. Julia Albert scored on a man-up opportunity to cap the scoring with 3:36 left.

Vincent had three goals and an assist, and Elliott three scores to lead UMW. The Spartans led in shots, 20-18, while UMW led in ground balls, 9-8. The Eagles were a perffect 15-15 on clears, and York won 10 of 19 draw controls.

Freshman Hanna Ashby had eight saves in goal for the Eagles in gaining the win. Kirsten Littlefield had three ground balls to lead UMW.

The Eagles will be back in action when they visit St. Mary's College on Thursday at 4:00 p.m.
