Hudson, Elliott Spark #16 UMW Women's Lax Past Randolph-Macon, 13-10

Sophomore Holly Hudson scored five goals and junior Sabrina Elliott added four goals and an assist to lead the 16th ranked University of Mary Washington women's lacrosse team to a 13-10 victory over Randolph-Macon College on Wednesday afternoon at the Battleground. The Eagles improve to 7-0 on the year.

Hudson put the Eagles out in front early, scoring twice in the opening 1:32, and Ashlyn Dacey, Hudson, and Mackenzie Maguire posted goals over the next five minutes to push the lead to 5-0 with 22 minutes left.

After the Yellow Jackets got on the board, Kelsey Vincent scored on an Elliott assist with 21:06 left. The Jackets then scored three straight to pull to within 6-4, but Maguire scored with 6:40 left to put the Eagles up, 7-4, which was the margin at halftime.

After Randolph-Macon started the second half with a score to pull to within 7-5, Elliott scored on a free position shot with 22:28 left, and Hudson followed with another goal at 20:15 to give UMW a four-goal cushion.

The Yellow Jackets stemmed the tide with a goal with 16:31 to play, but Elliott answered with a pair of goals and Hudson added another to give the Eagles a 12-6 lead with 12:20 remaining. The Yellow Jackets scored a pair of goals, but Elliott added another tally with 6:05 left. RMC ended the game with a pair of goals to trim the final margin to 13-10.

The Eagles led in shots, 29-19, and ground balls, 26-18. Sophomore Kelsey Welsh had fivew saves for the Eagles while Allie Walker had six for RMC.

The Eagles will return to action on Saturday when they host Roanoke College on Saturday at 3:00 p.m. as part of Spring Jubilee at UMW.
