UMW Women's Lacrosse Tops Wesley, 18-3, on Wednesday in CAC Tilt

The University of Mary Washington women's lacrosse team jumped out to a 10-2 halftime lead en route to an 18-3 win at Wesley College on Wednesday afternoon. The Eagles run their record to 8-7 on the season.

The Eagles ran out to a 4-0 lead, as junior Ashlyn Dacey scored in the opening minute, and was followed at 28:00 by senior Corinne Wiederkehr, 27:41 from Holly Hudson, and at 25:45 from Mo Sunderland.

After a Wesley score, Wiederkehr scored again with 18:03 left in the first half. Wesley cut the deficit to 5-2 at 15:44, but the Eagles closed the half on a 5-0 run. Kara Hogan scored with 15:12 remaining, and was followed by Sunderland with 7:55 left, Hudson twice, and Kelsey Vincent with 3:15 left.

The Eagles ran off the first six goals of the second half to put the game away. Emily Mott got the scoring started with 28:03 left, and Vincent scored less than a minute later. Hudson and Hogan scored their second goals of the after noon, before Kate Smucker scored a pair of goals, the latter with 17:31 remaining.

After a Wesley goal, Sunderland and Dacey capped the scoring, giving the Eagles an 18-3 victory.

UMW led in shots, 37-12, and in ground balls, 28-18, forcing 25 Wesley turnovers. Taylor Paige had five saves, while Kelsey Welsh and Rachel Lynch each had one stop in goal for the Eagles. Smucker added six draw controls for the Eagles.

Hudson scored four goals to lead UMW, who will visit Marymount University on Saturday in the regular season finale at 1:00 p.m.
