The University of Mary Washington women's lacrosse team used goals from 15 different players en route to an 18-2 victory at Southern Virginia University on Saturday afternoon in Buena Vista, Va. The Eagles improve to 5-1 on the year.
UMW jumped ahead from the opening draw, scoring twice in the first minute. Jenna Petrucelli scored on a Corrine Wiederkehr pass at 29:39, and Kara Hogan scored on a Katie Williams assist at 29:09. Emily Mott followed with a free position score at 27:35, and Hogan scored again a minute later on another Wiederkehr pass to up the lead to 4-0.
Williams scored five minutes into the game, and then Angela Sperbeck netted a pair of goals in a 15 second span a minute later. Ashlyn Dacey and Kate Smucker scored on free position shots to move the lead to 9-0, before the Knights reached the scoring column. UMW closed the half with goals from Wiederkehr, Williams, Megan Gersbeck, and Maiah Bartlett to take a 13-1 lead to halftime.
In the second half, UMW used goals from Anna Kumor, Maddy Miller, Paige Thumel, Sam Ehlers, and Priscilla Smith, as the lead reached 18-1 before an 18-2 final.
The Eagles led in shots, 27-7, and in ground balls, 14-12. Kelly Dean had three saves and taylor Paige two.
Mary Washington will be back in action again on Wednesday when they visit Catholic University at 4:00 p.m.
