Wiederkehr's Six Points, Petrucelli's Four Goals Lead UMW Women's Lax Past Bridgewater, 18-4

Junior Corinne Wiederkehr scored six points and senior Jenna Petrucelli added four goals to lead the University of Mary Washington women's lacrosse team to an 18-4 victory over Bridgewater College on Friday afternoon at the Battleground. The Eagles improve to 4-1 on the season.

UMW jumped ahead early and stayed in command throughout, scoring the game's first six goals, and 11 of the first 12. The run included five goals in a 3:09 span midway through the half. Eight diffreent players scored in the run. The Eagles led, 11-2, at halftime.

The Eagles continued their pace in the second half, scoring the first two goals. After Bridgewater connected for two of the next three scores, UMW finished the game scoring four straight.

Wiederkehr scored three goals and added two assists, while Petrucelli added four goals and an assist. Kate Smucker added a goal and three assists for UMW.

The Eagles led in shots, 34-14, and led in ground balls, 21-11. UMW's defense was stout, forcing 25 BC turnovers. Kelly Dean had four saves and Taylor Paige three for UMW.

Mary Washington will return to action on Wednesday when they visit Catholic University at 4:00 p.m.
