Four UMW Women's Lacrosse Players Named to All-CAC Teams

 YORK, Pa. - Salisbury junior attack Katie Bollhorst (Severna Park, Md./St. Mary’s) was selected as the Player of the Year for the second-straight year and was one of six conference regular-season champion Sea Gulls named to the 2013 All-CAC first-team women’s lacrosse squad.        

Bollhorst, a two-time All-CAC first-team honoree, is the 10th Salisbury player to be named Player of the Year and the seventh in the last nine years.   Bollhorst, one of six Gulls on the All-CAC first-team this season, joins Goucher’s Kristen Carey (1997-98), St. Mary’s Gia Trionfo (1998-99) and Salisbury’s Sue Ackermann (2007-08) as the only two-time CAC Player of the Year award winners.       

Sea Gulls veteran mentor Jim Nestor was picked by his peers as the CAC Coach of the Year for the ninth time since 2003.  Nestor, whose team has been ranked No. 2 nationally all season, won the regular-season crown and is top seeded in the 2013 conference tournament after the Gulls posted its 11th-straight undefeated CAC slate.       

Sea Gulls joining Bollhorst on All-CAC first team this year were senior attack Lauren Feusahrens (Solomons Island, Md./St. Mary’s Ryken), sophomore midfielder Bethany Baer (Westminster, Md./Westminster), junior defender Meghan Toomey (Annapolis, Md./St. Mary’s), sophomore defender Laura Maskell (Ellicott City, Md./Marriots Ridge) and junior goalie Ashton Wheatley (Cambridge, Md./Salisbury School).  Feusahrens, Toomey and Wheatley are repeat All-CAC honorees.       

St. Mary’s freshman midfielder Shelby Newman (Hampstead, Md./Manchester Valley) was picked by the conference coaches as the Rookie of the Year.  She is the ninth Seahawk to win the award since 1998 and one of five SMC players to earn All-CAC honors this season.        Newman was joined on the All-CAC first team by sophomore defender Paige Decker (Clarksville, Md./River Hill), a second-team all-star last year, as well as second-team honorees senior attack Emily Shafer (Leonardtown, Md./Leonardtown), senior midfielder Lauren Grey (Edgewater, Md./South River) and freshman defender Lizzie D’Agostaro (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright).  Decker and Shafer were second-team all-stars in 2012.       

York, which is ranked 10th nationally and finished second in the regular-season standings for the second-straight year, placed a conference-best seven players on the 2013 All-CAC team, led by senior attack Kim Wayson (Harwood, Md./Southern), junior attack Erica Mulford (Crownsville, Md./Seton Keough) and senior defender Katie Vautier (Harwood, Md./Archbishop Spalding).         

Spartans earning second-team All-CAC honors were senior attack Leah Schultz (Catonsville, Md./Seton Keough), senior defender Jordan Hall (Riva, Md./South River), junior defender Jess Soroka (Pasadena, Md./Chesapeake) and junior goalie Ashley Smith (Cinaminson, N.J./Cinaminson).       

Wayson and Schultz are the only four-time All-CAC honorees on this year’s all-star squad.  Wayson is making her third-straight first-team appearance while Schultz is a two-time first-team choice.  Vautier also gained her third-straight first-team All-CAC team nod.  Mulford and Hall were second-team all-stars in past seasons.       

Third place Mary Washington tied York with three first-team all-stars, including senior attack Keller Torrey (Roswell, Ga./Centennial), junior midfielder Megan Gersbeck (Wading River, N.Y./Shoreham-Wading River) and senior defender Kate Mastropaolo (Ruckersville, Va./Albemarle).   Junior attack Jenna Petrucelli (Cranberry, N.J./Peddie School) was the fourth Eagle on the All-CAC team, earning second-team recognition.       

Marymount midfielders Stephanie Flood (Westborough, Mass./Westborough) and Molly Maher (Zionsville, Ind./Zionsville) were first-team All-CAC choices this year after earning second-team honors in past years.  The Saints also placed junior goalie Kiki Niebuhr (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) and sophomore attack Taylor Johnson (Vorhees, N.J./Eastern) on the 2013 All-CAC second team.       

Senior midfielder Taylor Cassatt (Eldersburg, Md./Liberty) represented Frostburg State on the All-CAC first team while junior attack Megan White (Delmar, Md./Wicomico) and sophomore defender Jessica Jones (Linthicum, Md./North County) were both second-team picks.  All three Bobcats are making their first All-CAC team appearances.       

Wesley tied Frostburg State with three players on the All-CAC team for the first time, including second-team honorees senior attack Jennifer Jacobs (Aberdeen, Md./Aberdeen), junior Jorden Lutz (Collingswood, N.J./Collingswood) and goalie Alyssa Batty (Chalfont, Pa./Central Bucks West).
