UMW Women's Lax Falls at #10 York, 12-5, in CAC Semifinal

The University of Mary Washington women's lacrosse team fell behind early and couldn't fight all the way back in a 12-5 loss at #10 York College of Pa. on Saturday in the semifinals of the Capital Athletic Conference tournament. The Eagles fall to 10-7 on the season.

The Spartans jumped ahead by scoring the first four goals of the game, with the Eagles' first goal coming with 20:36 remaining on a Jenna Petrucelli score. York answered with five straight goals to lead, 9-1, with 11:58 remaining in the half.

UMW closed the first half scoring on a tally from sophomore Emily Atkinson, and opened the scoring in the second with a goal from senior Keller Torrey to move the deficit to 9-3.

The teams traded the final five goals of the game, with Ashlyn Dacey scoring with 15 minutes remaining and Kara Hogan scoring with 7:25 left.

York led in shots, 28-15, and in ground balls, 21-18. Senior goalie Kathryn Stiltz had ten saves and Taylor Paige two for the Eagles, with Katie Mastropaolo adding three ground balls and four caused turnovers.
