#20 UMW Women's Lax Falls to #1 Trinity (Conn.), 14-2

The top-ranked and defending national champion Trinity (Conn.) College women's lacrosse team jumped out to a 9-1 halftime lead and never looked back in a 14-2 victory over 20th ranked Mary Washington on Monday at a cold, rainy Battleground turf stadium. The Eagles fall to 3-4 on the season.

The Bantams raced to a 4-0 lead in the opening 10 minutes. The Eagles scored at 15:07 remaining on a Katie Williams free position shot. Trinity scored five straight to close the half with a 9-1 lead.

In the second, Trinity scored four straight to up its advantage to 13-1, before UMW's Emily Atkinson scored with 7:00 left. Trinity added one late score to run the final to 14-2.

The Bantams led in shots, 27-13, and limited UMW's transition by forcing 19 Eagle turnovers. Trinity led in ground balls, 18-12. Senior Kathryn Stiltz made eight saves in goal for Mary Washington, and senior defender Mackenzie Sloan led UMW with four ground balls.

The Eagls will return to action on Wednesday when they host Babson College at 4:00 p.m.
