#14 UMW Women's Lax Falls at Shenandoah, 10-9

The fourteenth-ranked University of Mary Washington women's lacrosse dropped a 10-9 decision at Shenandoah University on Wednesday afternoon to fall to 2-2 on the season.

The Eagles scored first, as junior Angela Sperbeck scored minutes into the game. Shenandoah answered, scoring the next four goals to lead 4-1 with 12:55 remaining in the first half. The Eagles responded by scoring three of the next four goals, with Corinne Wiederkehr, Keller Torrey, and Karlie Fuller finding the net. Shenandoah scored in the final minute to take a 6-4 lead into halftime.

The Hornets started the second half by running off three straight goals to assume a 9-4 lead with 22:14 remaining. After sophomore Emily Atkinson scored to cut the deficit to 9-5, neither team would score in the next 10 minutes. Shenandoah scored what proved to be the game winner with 9:21 left, before UMW mounted one last charge, scoring the final four goals to cut the final deficit to 10-9. Torrey scored three times in the run, while freshman Ashlyn Dacey scored once.

The Eagles had four shots in the final two minutes, but three were saved and one sailed wide. UMW led in shots, 35-22, and in ground balls, 21-11. Shenandoah won 13 of 21 draw controls. Senior Kathryn Stiltz had five saves for UMW in goal.

Mary Washingotn will face Roanoke College next Wednesday in Florida at noon as part of the team's spring break trip.
