Offense Ignites #14 UMW Women's Lax to 20-6 Win over Marymount


Senior Catherine Kennedy scored six goals, senior Lauren Callison scored five goals, and junior Keller Torrey dished out six assists to lead the 14th ranked University of Mary Washington women's lacrosse team to a 20-6 win over Marymount University on Saturday at the Battleground. The Eagles improve to 10-3 overall and 6-2 in Capital Athletic Conference play.

Callison and Kennedy gave UMW a 2-0 lead in the openeing six minutes, both on feeds from Torrey. After a Marymount goal, the Eagles scored five straight, incluing four from Kennedy, to up the lead to 7-1 with 11:28 remaining, and led 12-3 at halftime, as Callison and freshman Emily Atkinson each scored twice in the half-ending run.

In the second half, eight different players scored UMW's eight goals, with freshman Corinne Wiederkehr adding a pair of assists to her score. In all, the Eagles outshot the Saints, 40-14, and had 13 ground balls to seven for the Saints. The Eagles won 18 of 27 draw controls, and forced 14 Marymount turnovers.

Junior Kathryn Stiltz and freshman Taylor paige each had two saves in 30 minutes apiece for the Eagles. Stephanie Flood had three goals to lead Marymount.

The Eagles will host Guilford College on Sunday at 2:00 p.m.
