#13 UMW Women's Lacrosse Tops St. Mary's, 16-7, in CAC Action


The 13th ranked University of Mary Washington women's lacrosse team saw juniors Keller Torrey and Jenna Petrucelli score five goals each to lead the way in a 16-7 Capital Athletic Conference victory at St. Mary's College on Wednesday afternoon. The Eagles improve to 7-2 overall, and 3-1 in league play.

The Eagles jumped ahead early, building a 10-3 halftime lead. UMW scored the first three goals, as Torrey scored twice and Petrucelli once in the opening four minutes of play. After a Seahawk goal, Petrucelli scored twice and senior Allie Kimmelman added another, boosting the lead to 6-1. The Eagles netted goals from four different players to close the half with a 10-3 advantage.

Torrey opened the second half by netting three straight goals, followed by a Lauren Callison score. St. Mary's scored four of the final six goals of the game to cut the final deficit to 16-7.

The Eagles led in shots, 36-16, and won 18 of 25 draw controls. The Eagles went 11-16 on clear attempts, and junior goalie Kathryn Stiltz had five saves and freshman Taylor Paige one in goal for UMW.

Mary Washington will return to action on Saturday when they visit York College in a key CAC battle between two nationally-ranked teams. Game time is 1:00 p.m.
