#15 UMW Women's Lax Falls to #2 Salisbury, 17-9


The 15th ranked University of Mary Washington women's lacrosse team dropped 17-9 decision to second-ranked Salisbury University on Thursday at the Battleground. The Eagles fall to 4-2 on the year, with losses to the \#1 and \#2 ranked teams in the nation.

The Eagles started strong defensively in the game, as neither team scored in the opening 10 minutes, and the score was tied at 2-2 after goals from senior All-Americans Allie Kimmelman and Catherine Kennedy. The Sea Gulls then took over, scoring eight of the game's next nine goals, with Kimmelman adding another goal to interrupt the run.

The Eagles then scored three of the next four goals, including two from Kennedy and one from Kimmelman, to cut the deficit to 11-6 with 16:52 to play. The Sea Gulls scored the next four goals to push the margin to 15-6 with 12:11 remaining. Kennedy, Kimmelman, and Jenna Petrucelli each scored in the final minutes of the game to move the final to 17-9.

Salisbury led in shots, 32-19, and in ground balls, 19-13. The Eagles held a lead in draw controls, 15-12. Junior Kathryn Stiltz had seven saves in 32 minutes and freshman Taylor Paige added four stops in the remainder of the contest.

Kimmelman led UMW with four goals and three assists, while Kennedy added four goals as well. Lauren Feusahrens led Salisbury with five goals and two assists.

The Eagles will return to action on Saturday when they visit Frostburg State University in another conference game starting at 4:00 p.m.
