#17 UMW Women's Lax Tops Wesley, 16-4


Senior attacker Catherine Kennedy and junior middie Jenna Petrucelli each scored six goals in leading the 17th ranked University of Mary Washington women's lacrosse team to a 16-4 win over Wesley College in Capital Athletic Conference action on Saturday at the Battleground. UMW improves to 2-1 while the Wolverines fall to 1-1.

After Wesley got on the board first, UMW answered with eight straight goals, including five from Kennedy, and led, 11-3, at halftime. After the Wolverines scored first in the second half, the Eagles scored thew final five goals to take the 16-4 victory.

In addition to kennedy and Petrucelli's six markers, senior Allie Kimmelman added five assists for the Eagles, who outshot the guests, 43-13. The Eagles led in draw controls, 17-5, and in ground balls, 17-7. Kathryn Stiltz had one save and Taylor Paige five for UMW.

The Eagles will return to action on Wednesday when they visit nationally-ranked Catholic University at 3:30 p.m.
