#17 UMW Women's Lacrosse Falls to #1 Gettysburg, 17-4


The 17th ranked University of Mary Washington women's lacrosse team jumped out to an early lead, but top-ranked Gettysburg netted the final 13 goals of the game to take a 17-4 win over the Eagles on Thursday at the Battleground. UMW falls to 1-1 overall.

The Eagles scored three times in the first two minutes, with junior Keller Torrey scoring twice and junior Jenna Petrucelli adding one. Gettysburg scored four straight over the next five minutes to assume the lead, and after torrey scored for the third time with 21:45 remaining, the Bullets took control, leading 9-4 at halftime, and blanked the Eagles, 8-0, in the second half.

Gettysburg led in shots, 39-11, and both teams had 17 ground balls. The Bullets were led by Hannah Church's seven goals and two assists. Kathryn Stiltz had 14 saves for the Eagles.

Mary Washington will be back in action on Saturday when they host Wesley College at 2:00 p.m.
