UMW Women's Lax Falls at Salisbury in CAC Championship, 18-6

The University of Mary Washington women's lacrosse team dropped an 18-6 decision at Salisbury University on Friday night in the 2011 Capital Athletic Conference championship. The Eagles fall to 13-7 on the year.

The Eagles jumped out to the first lead of the game, as Allie Kimmelman scored on an Erin Murphy assist less than two minutes into the game. The Sea Gulls scored the game's next four goals before Murphy scored on a Kimmelman assist with 15:34 remaining in the half. The Sea Gulls put the game away by scoring the final seven goals of the period.

The Eagles cut the deficit to six at 12-6 on a pair of goals by Catherine Kennedy and one from Keller Torrey. The Gulls scored the final six goals of the game for the 12-goal win.

Salisbury led in shots, 34-18, and in ground balls, 20-16. The Sea Gulls led in draw controls, 19-7, and in turnovers, 20-22. Danielle Guigli had four saves and Kathryn Stiltz one for UMW.

The Eagles must now await a possible NCAA Tournament bid, with the announcement coming next Sunday.
