#19 UMW Women's Lax Tops Christopher Newport, 19-15
Junior attacker Allie Kimmelman (Burke, Va., Robinson) scored four goals and added three assists, and classmate Catherine Kennedy (Baltimore, Md., Baltimore Lutheran) scored five goals to lead the 19th ranked University of Mary Washington women's lacrosse team to a 19-15 win at Christopher Newport University on Wednesday afternoon in Newport News. The Eagles improve to 9-6 on the season.

The Eagles opened the game by jumping out to a 4-1 lead in the opening eight minutes. The Captains responded with six of the next eight goals to take a 7-6 advantage in the next 10 minutes of play. The Eagles closed the half by scoring the final four goals of the frame to take a 10-7 lead to halftime.

In the second half, the Eagles scored the first two goals, and the two teams traded scores the rest of the half, as UMW held on for the four-goal win. Sophomore Keller Torrey (Roswell, Ga., Centennial) had three goals, while Lauren Callison (Stevensville, Md., Kent Island) and Katie Wallis (Cypress, Texas, Cy-Creek) each had two for UMW.

The Eagles led in shots, 38-34, and had 19 ground balls to 14 for the Captains. Junior Danni Guigli had 11 saves for Mary Washington, who will host Frostburg State University on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
