The Seahawks jumped ahead early, taking a 2-0 lead in th opening 1:32. But the Eagles scored 10 of the next 11 goals to carry a 10-3 lead into the second half. Callisons cored three straight to give UMW the lead at 3-2, and after a Seahawk score, Katie Wallis (Cypress, Texas, Cy-Creek) scored to put UMW up for good at 4-3. Junior Allie Kimmelman followed with three straight goals, followed by tallies from Keller Torrey (Roswell, Ga., Centennial), Erin Murphy (Virginia Beach, Va., Bishop Sullivan), and Kennedy to boost UMW's second half lead to 10-3.
In the second half, the teams traded goals for the first 18 minutes, with the lead staying between six and eight goals. Callison scored twice and Torrey and freshman Jenna Petrucelli (Cranbury, N.J., Peddie School) added single goals. With the score at 14-7 with 6:50 to play, UMW scored the final four goals, coming from Kennedy (two), and freshmen Megan Gersbeck (Wading River, N.Y., Shoreham-Wading River) and Casey Dee (Norfolk, Va., Bishop Sullivan).
Kimmelman had three goals and two assists and Torrey two goals and two assists for UMW. St. Mary's was led by Maggie Macleay's three goals.
The Eagles led in shots, 31-23, and had 26 ground balls to 21 for the Seahawks. Junior Danielle Guigli (Wellesley, Mass., Wellesley) had 14 saves for Mary Washington, who will host Catholic University on Monday at 4:00 p.m.
