Kennedy, Torrey Pace #16 UMW Women's Lax Past Wesley, 26-9

Junior All-American Catherine Kennedy (Baltimore, Md., Baltimore Lutheran) scored six goals and sophomore Keller Torrey (Roswell, Ga., Centennial) added eight assists to lead the 16th ranked University of Mary Washington women's lacrosse team to a 26-9 win at Wesley College in Capital Athletic Conference play on Thursday in Dover, Del. The Eagles improve to 6-3 overall and 3-1 in league play.

The Eagles found an early lead in the game, but Wesley hung close for much of the first half, with UMW leading, 7-5, with 8:46 left in the half. Over the next 18 minutes of play, the Eagles went on a 12-0 run, sparked by all six of Kennedy's scores, to take a commanding 19-5 lead with 20 minutes remaining. UMW scored seven of the final 10 goals to extend to a 26-9 win.

Torrey led UMW with eight points, while Kennedy added seven. Kirsten West (Charlottesville, Va., St. Anne's-Belfield) and Lauren Callison (Stevensville, Md., Kent Island) each scored four goals for the Eagles, while Katie Wallis (Cypress, Texas, Cy-Creek) added three. Wesley was led by Alyssa Prudente's four goals.

The Eagles outshot the Wolverines, 48-28, while picking up 27 ground balls. Danni Guigli had four saves and Kathryn Stiltz six for UMW, who will face Williams College on Tuesday at 4:00 p.m.
