#19 UMW Women's Lax Tops Wesley, 19-2; Clinches Bye in CAC Tournament


Sophomore All-Americans Catherine Kennedy (Baltimore, Md., Baltimore Lutheran) and Allie Kimmelman (Burke, Va., Robinson) combined for six goals and four assists in leading the 19th-ranked University of Mary Washington women's lacrosse team past Wesley College, 19-2, in Capital Athletic Conference action on Friday. The Eagles improve to 10-3 overall and 6-0 in CAC play, and clinch a bye in the first round of the CAC Tournament in two weeks.

The Eagles blanked the Wolverines in the first half, 14-0, outshooting the guests, 28-0, in the opening frame. Kennedy scored all four of her tallies in the opening frame, and Kimmelman dished out four assists. Katie Wallis (Cypress, Texas, Cy-Creek) and Lauren Callison (Stevensville, Md., Kent Island) each scored twice in the opening frame.

The second half saw Brittany Butler (Easton, Conn., Joel Barlow) score two of UMW's first three goals, with Kimmelman adding another. After Wesley scored a pair of goals, freshmen Julie Frase (Preston, Md., Gunston Day) and Claire Gianelle (Salisbury, Md., Parkside) capped the scoring for the Eagles.

Mary Washington outshot the Wolverines, 33-6, and had 16 draw controls to seven for the guests. The Eagles limited Wesley to 3-16 on clear attempts. Freshman Kathryn Stiltz (Marietta, Ga., Walton) made two second half saves in relief of Leigh Ann Redefer (Lewes, Del., Cape Henlopen) in the Eagle goal.

Kennedy had four goals, and Kimmelman added two goals and four asissts. Callison had two goals and two asists, and freshman Sara Donatich (Melville, N.Y., Walt Whitman) added two goals and one assist.
The Eagles will host top-ranked Salisbury University next Wednesday at 4:00 p.m., with the top seed in the CAC tournament on the line.
