#16 UMW Women's Lacrosse Falls at #19 Catholic, 21-15

The University of Mary Washington women's lacrosse team suffered through a dismal first half in falling to 19th ranked Catholic University, 21-15, on Thursday in Washington, DC. The Eagles see their three-game win streak snapped as they fall to 7-3 on the year.

Catholic scored the first three goals of the game, but the Eagles answered with two scores from sophomore Catherine Kennedy (Baltimore, Md., Baltimore Lutheran) to cut the deficit to 3-2. The Eagles trailed 6-4 midway through the first half after Allie Kimmelman (Burke, Va., Robinson) scored twice. 

The Cardinals put the game away with 10 of the final 11 goals of the second half to lead, 16-5, at halftime.

UMW fought back in the second half, scoring the first four goals of the second frame. Brittany Butler (Easton, Conn., Joel Barlow) scored twice in the run to lead the way. Junior Katie Wallis (Cypress, Texas, Cy-Creek) scored twice and added two assists to cut the deficit to 19-14 with 7:54 to play.

Catholic scored two of the final three goals of the game to push the final to 21-15.

The Eagles were outshot, 34-29, and failed on seven clear attempts. Freshman Leigh Ann Redefer (Lewes, Del., Cape Henlopen) made five saves and freshman Kathryn Stiltz (Marietta, Ga., Walton) added four saves in 31 minutes for UMW in goal.

Mary Washington will host Guilford College on Sunday at 2:00 p.m.
