The 23rd-ranked University of Mary Washington women's lacrosse teram used one goal and eight assists from sophomore All-American Allie Kimmelman (Burke, Va., Robinson), and six goals from Katie Wallis (Cypress, Texas, Cy-Creek) and Catherine Kennedy (Baltimore, Md., Baltimore Lutheran) to defeat York College, 19-8, on Saturday in York. The Eagles improve to 5-2 on the season, and move to 2-0 in Capital Athletic Conference action.

York started the game with the first goal 1:01 into the contest. Mary Washington knotted the game at one just 17 seconds later on Brittany Butler (Easton, Conn., Joel Barlow)'s 12th score of the season. Butler would tally again at the 26:27 mark of the opening stanza, giving the Eagles their first lead a 2-1.

After York tied the score, Katie Wallis then swung the momentum back to Mary Washington’s side as she tallied the Eagles’ third of the day before Lauren Callison (Stevensville, Md., Kent Island) put the visitors up 4-2.

After a York tally, Mary Washington took over the game. The Eagles embarked on a 10-2 run to close out the first half and take a commanding 14-5 lead heading into the break. Allie Kimmelman was the catalyst behind the deluge of offense as she recorded a goal and six assists during the extended spurt.

The second half would prove a much more subdued affair as the squads combined for a mere eight goals over the latter 30 minutes.

Three of those eight came from the crosse of Mary Washington’s Catherine Kennedy as she upped her season total to 31 goals.

For the game, the Eagles held a significant 38-23 lead in shots, holding the Spartans to a mere eight in the first half. Mary Washington picked up 33 ground balls to York’s 23 while grabbing four more draw controls than their hosts, 16-12.

Both Kennedy and Katie Wallis tallied six times for the visitors while Kimmelman posted eight helpers. Leigh Ann Redefer (Lewes, Del., Cape Henlopen) takes the win in the cage after making two saves over her 30 minutes before being relieved by Kathryn Stiltz (Marietta, Ga., Walton) who totaled six saves. Ellen Bikowski picked up a game-high seven ground balls and caused a trio of turnovers.
