1995 MWC Women's Lacrosse Season in Review

The blueprint for success has now reached the construction phase. When taking over the MWC women's lacrosse program in 1991, head coach Dana Hall depended on a large percentage of players with no high-school experience. Five years later, her recruiting efforts and constant enthusiasm has helped build a rock-solid foundation. In 1995, the Eagles went 8-6 against one of the toughest Division III schedules in the nation. Six MWC players, including four defensive standouts, were named to the All-Capital Athletic Conference team. Further strengthening the foundation is the fact that Coach Hall welcomes everyone back from last season.

Two of MWC's all-time leading scorers spark the Eagle offensive attack. Midfielder Eliza Huber (Sr./ Doylestown, PA), a Second-Team All-American in '95, finished sixth in the CAC in scoring with 42 points (29goals/13 assists; both team-highs). Huber-sixthon MWC's all-time scoring list with 106 points (79 goals/27 assists) – was named First-Team All-Region and All-CAC. Huber also paced MWC in ground balls/intercepttions (81) and draw controls (26). Midfielder Heather Hallowes (Sr./
Glastonbury, CT), who had 27 goals and 12 assists for 39 points in '95, was tabbed Second-Team All- Region and All-CAC. Her 119 points (88 goals/31 assists) rank fourth all-time in Eagle scoring. Scoring threats in 1995 also included 26-goal scorer Charlotte Cockrell Jr./Silver Spring, MD) and 24-goal sniper Liza Barber Jr./Weekapaug, RI). Juniors Heather Shumake (Glenwood, MD) and Kristie Fasanaro (Stony Brook, NY) scored 17 and 13 goals, respectively. Other offensive players to watch are: Kelly Sutton (So./Baltimore, MD), Melissa Schreiber Jr./Jarrettsville, MD), Erin Golden (So./Simsbury, CT) and Emily McManus (So./Severna Park, MD).

A staunch defense is led by two All-CAC First-Teamers, '96 co-captains Amy Halter (Sr./Parsippany, NJ) and Jen Wassif (Sr./Pasadena, MD). Halter - also named First-Team All-Region - collected 67 ground balls/interceptions and Wassif gathered in 70. Tricia Kube (Sr./Doylestown, PA) totaled 63 GB/INT. and 21 draw controls in route to Second-Team All-CAC honors. Fellow Second-Teamer Inga Fredland Jr./ Annapolis, MD) accounted for 73 GB/INT. Goaltender Nicole Matthews (Jr./Fairfax, VA) was solid, posting a .545 save percentage. Starting defender Gina Pisoni Jr./Great Falls, VA) suffered a broken leg in the '95 opener but should be ready in '96. Alexis Kingham (So./Swarthmore, PA) is another strong defender.
