UMW Women's Basketball Ranked No. 6 in Feb. 13 Region VI Ranking

After making the inital NCAA Division III women's basketball regional rankings a week ago, the Mary Washington women's basketball team was ranked No. 6 in the Region VI rankings in the latest release on Tuesday afternoon. The initial rankings release last week were in alphabetical order -- not numerical.

The Eagles are 14-7 against Division III teams this season -- 14-8 overall -- holding opponents to just 54.1 points-per-game and a 33.5% clip from the floor, both of which rank in the top 50 in Division III women's basketball.

They boast two double-digit point scorers in Sydney Sherman (12.0 points-per-game) and D3Hoops.com Pre-season All-American honoree, Jordan Carpenter, who leads the team with an average of 15.2 points-per-game. Carpenter, too, is among the country's leaders in double-doubles with 15 this season. The senior also leads the team in rebounds with 10.8 rebounds-per-game.

Mary Washington is seeking its first consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances for the first time since the 2015-16 and 2016-17 seasons. The Eagles have one final regular season game on Thusday night against Hood College in the Anderson Center in Fredericksburg, Va. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m.

The Eagles will then head into the Coast-to-Coast Conference Tournament from Feb. 22-24, likely as the No. 2 seed in Newport News, Va., on the campus of Christopher Newport University.
