Carpenter, Schwab Reach Double Figures as Mary Washington Falls to Rochester in Puerto Rico, 60-56

In its first game in the Puerto Rico Classic, the Mary Washington women's basketball team (8-3) fell to Rochester on Friday morning in San Juan, 60-56.

Jordan Carpenter and Keagan Schwab led the way for the Eagles on the scoreboard as the pair reached double figures with 16 and 14 points, respectivley. Carpenter finished with her ninth double-double of the season as she grabbed 12 rebounds and was 7-of-14 (50%) from the floor. The senior also recorded a trio of steals and a block.

Schwab, meanwhile, shot 6-of-17 overall and recorded a pair of 3-pointer's, while dishing out three assists as well. The Fairfax Station, Va. native also recorded three rebounds in her effort.

The morning started off well for the Eagles, who led by a point at the end of the first quarter, 13-12. But a 23-point second period from Rochester damaged the Eagles' best efforts as they weren't able to recover as they fell behind on the scoreboard heading into halftime, 36-26. 

UMW cameback in the third quarter, drawing as close as three points, 50-47 at the 1:50 mark, but weren't able to close the margin any further in the quarter. In the fourth quarter, the Eagles again came within three points, 59-56 with 43 seconds to play after a Carpenter layup, but a few missed shots couldn't find the bottom of the basket to tie the game.

For the day, the Eagles were 23-of-64 from the floor (35.9%), while holding Rochester to a 33.9% mark. From deep, Mary Washington was 4-for-10 (40%), while Rochester was 6-of-18 (33.3%).

Mary Washington is back in action on Saturday morning for a matchup with Haverford at 11:00 a.m. local time, 10:00 a.m. EST.
