In its ongoing series of "On This Date" features, sponsored by Virginia Lottery, today, we focus on the women's basketball team's 83-76 overtime victory over Marymount University on January 19, 2009.
In the game, the Eagles trailed by as many as seven in the half, overcame a five-point halftime deficit to knot the score by the end of regulation, and outscored the Saints, 16-9, in the extra frame. The classic featured nine lead changes with the lead changing hands seven times.
Senior Ashton Mitchell led the Eagles with 21 points and nine rebounds, while senior Katy Larson added 19 points. Freshman Jenna McRae scored 15 points as well.
The Eagles would go on to finish the season with a 23-6 record, winning the CAC Championship at York College, and advancing to the NCAA Tournament for the fifth straight year.
