UMW Women’s Basketball Tops Lehman in Home Opener

The University of Mary Washington women's basketball team topped Lehman College, 110-29, on Friday night in their home opener as part of the Hyatt Tipoff Tournament. The Eagles improve to 2-1 on the season. 

The Eagles jumped out to a big lead in the first half and went into the locker room up 53-8. They held on from there to take the win.

Freshman Hannah Stockman and senior Emily Thompson led the team in scoring as they both had 12 points a piece. Maddie Shifflett netted 11 points and totaled five rebounds. Jordan Lee added 10 points on the night, shooting 5-7 from the floor. Molly Sharman had nine points, while Karissa Highlander and Thora Gibbs both chipped in eight points a piece. 

Freshman Ashley Martin recorded eight point, seven assists, six rebounds, six steals, and one block. Tory Martin and Natalie Brennan both had seven points, and Carolina Bursch chipped in six points. Madi Wisensale and Bri Harper netted five points a piece and Emily Shively had two points to round out the scoring for the Eagles.

UMW shot 46-87 (52.9%) from the field, 9-24 (37.5%) from three-point range, and 9-15 (60.0%) from the free throw line. The Eagles outrebounded the Lightning 62-35.

UMW will be back in action as they will host Virginia Wesleyan in the Championship game of the Hyatt Tipoff Tournament at 2 p.m.
