Tory Martin Named CAC Women's Basketball Player of the Week

CAC -- The Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) has announced its weekly awards following the opening weekend of the 2019 women's basketball season. Mary Washington junior forward Tory Martin collected CAC Women's Basketball Player of the Week recognition.


PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Tory Martin - Mary Washington

Mary Washington junior forward Tory Martin was named to the St. Mary's College One Love Tipoff Tournament all-tournament team after leading UMW with 17.0 PPG and eight rebounds per game as the Eagles split their two opening contests. On Saturday against Drew, she made 6-10 field goals en route to 13 points to go with seven rebounds in a 75-53 Eagle win. On Sunday, she made 7-10 shots from the floor and 7-11 from the free throw line en route to 21 points as the Eagles fell to Widener, 72-69. She also added nine rebounds in the contest.

LEAGUE NOTES

Christopher Newport freshman Anaya Simmons just missed a double-double in her collegiate debut with 14 points and 9 rebounds in a win over TCNJ, who was receiving votes in the national rankings. She knocked down six of her eight shots from the floor and added a pair of free-throws. Also grabbed four steals in her debut with one assist. In a game two loss to 10th-ranked Messiah, the freshman scored six points and hauled in seven rebounds in just 15 minutes of action. She finished the week averaging 10.0 points, 8.0 rebounds, and 2.5 steals per game...Salisbury forward Courtney Brigham started and played 34 minutes for the Sea Gulls in their season opener on Saturday afternoon, finishing two points shy of a double-double with eight points, 10 rebounds and two steals.
