FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – University of Mary Washington senior women's basketball guard Kendall Parker (Fredericksburg, Va./Stafford) was selected by the Capital Athletic Conference athletic directors as the 2017-18 Female Senior Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
Parker was a political science major with a business minor who graduated with a 3.99 cumulative grade point average and 4.0 GPA within her major. She collected a long list of academic honors throughout her career, headlined by winning the Colgate Darden award as UMW's class valedictorian. She also earned the 2017-18 UMW Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year and was an Honors graduate. Parker was a member of Pi Sigma Alpha, Phi Beta Kappa, and the Mortar Board. She was also selected to complete the Undergraduate Research Project under Dr. Robert Barr and is National Pi Sigma Alpha's 2017 Best Undergraduate Class Paper runner-up.
On the court, Parker helped the Eagles to a highly-successful four-year run that included a CAC Championship and two trips to the NCAA Tournament. She finished her career as a member of the 1,000-point club, holds the CAC career record for three-pointers made with 206, and maintains the UMW and CAC single-game record for three-pointers made (9). She ranks at or near the top of the CAC and UMW's school records in several other categories. Her stellar free throw shooting catapulted her to the top of the record books, earning UMW's career free throw percentage mark at 85.5%, which also ranks No. 2 all-time in the CAC. She also holds the UMW single-season free throw record and ranks No. 2 in the CAC single-season records with a 90.2% free throw mark in 2016-17. She ranks seventh in the CAC single-season records with 66 three-pointers made in 2016-17.
Parker is the sixth UMW student-athlete to win the Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year award since its inception in 1992. Other UMW winners include Susan Myers (1992, tennis), Candice Malone (1994, field hockey), Angie Saulsbury (1998, field hockey), Bridget Geiman (2001, lacrosse), and Haley Kane (2016, field hockey).
To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be a senior with a minimum 3.50 cumulative grade point average, demonstrate athletic success and be a major contributor to his or her program.
