UMW Women's Basketball Tops Wesley, 86-44; Kendall Parker Joins 1,000 Point Club

Senior Kendall Parker became the 20th player in program history to surpass 1,000 career points in leading the University of Mary Washington women's basketball team to an 86-44 victory at Wesley College on Saturday afternoon. Parker was 6-7 from the floor en route to 16 points,, while junior Jordan Pamlanye led the way with 20 points.

The Eagles seized command from the opening tip, as they outscored the Wolverines, 17-2, in the first quarter. Parker wasted little time in gaining the seven points she needed for 1,000, making all three of her first quarter shots, including a pair of three pointers for eight, and freshman Tory Martin added seven points as well.

The Eagles continued to shine on both ends of the floor in the second, as they outscored the Wolverines, 23-9. Pamlanye led the way in the second, connecting on all four of her field goal attempts, as well as all four of her free throw tries. Sophomore Emily Thompson added six points in the quarter, as the Eagles carried a 40-11 lead to intermission.

UMW reeled off 28 points in the third quarter, with Pamlanye and Parker each scoring eight points. Pamlanye scored six from the free throw line, and Parker made all three of her field goals, including a pair from long distance.

In the fourth, junior McKenzie Jenkins connected for a pair of three pointers to lead the offense, as the Eagles maintained a healthy advantage to the final horn.

Pamlanye scored a game-high 20 points on 5-6 shooting from the field and 10-11 from the free throw line. Parker made 6-7 shots, including 4-5 three pointers, and Martin added 14 points and seven rebounds. Wesley was led by Tiyanna Gibbs' 16 points.

The Eagles shot a blistering 52.8% from the floor (28-53), making 11-20 three pointers and 19-27 free throws, and grabbed 42 rebounds. Wesley shot 23.5% (16-68) from the floor, making 7-27 three pointers and 5-11 free throws, and also controlled 42 rebounds.

Mary Washington (13-10, 12-4 CAC) will return to action on Wednesday night as they host Christopher Newport University at 6:00 p.m. in a key Capital Athletic Conference showdown.
