UMW Women's Basketball Falls at Salisbury, 65-49, on Saturday in CAC Contest

The University of Mary Washington women's basketball team dropped a 65-49 decision at Salisbury University in Capital Athletic Conference action on Maryland's Eastern shore on Saturday afternoon. The Eagles slip to 9-10 on the season, and 8-4 in CAC play.

Over the opening four minutes, Salisbury built an 8-0 lead. Junior Jordan Pamlanye scored a pair of baskets and sophomore Ashlee Warren added another to trim the margin to 8-6 with 2:52 left in the opening stanza. The Sea Gulls would score the final five points of the frame to take a 13-6 advantage.

In the second, junior McKenzie Jenkins opened with a three pointer, but Salisbury scored six straight before a Pamlanye jumper with 6:31 left cut the margin to 19-11. A three pointer and two baskets from senior Kendall Parker trimmed the deficit to 24-18, and classmate Taylor Barton connected on a pair of free throws get the Eagles to within six at 26-20 with 51 seconds left, and that score would stand to intermission.

In the third, the teams traded baskets until back to back three pointers from Alannah Miller and Jenkins cut the margin to 34-30 with 5:50 left in the third. The teams traded buckets but Salisbury answered with six straight to assume a 42-32 lead with 2:51 to go. Barton made a basket and Parker converted a pair of free throws, but Salisbury was able to extend its lead to 12 on a last minute layup, and led, 48-36, entering the fourth quarter.

The Sea Gulls scored the first five points of the final quarter, including three from the free throw line, before an Emily Thompson layup stopped the run. Free throws and a pair of layups increased the Sea Gull lead to 62-41 with 3:19 to play, and two baskets from Pamlanye and another from Thompson down the stretch cut the final score to 65-49.

The Eagles were led by Parker's 13 points and Pamlanye's 12, as the team shot 35.3% from the field (18-51), including 4-13 shooting on three pointers and 9-12 from the free throw line. Salisbury shot 40% (26-65), making 3-15 three pointers and 10-15 free throws. The Sea Gulls won the rebounding battle, 41-33.

Mary Washington will be back in action on Wednesday when they visit St. Mary's College at 6:00 p.m.
