UMW Falls to Emory and Henry College, 66-45, on Saturday Afternoon

The University of Mary Washington women's basketball team fell to Emory and Henry College, 66-45, on Saturday afternoon in Emory, VA. The Eagles slip to 4-5 on the season. Freshman Tory Martin led UMW with 11 points. 

In the first quarter, junior Jordan Pamlanye got the scoring started with a jump shot 1:19 into the game. The Wasps managed to score the next seven points and take the lead 7-2 with 6:09 remaining. Emory and Henry went up 9-3, but then the Eagles came back on a 7-0 run of their own to take the lead 10-9 on a made free throw from Meghan Comer with 24 seconds remaining in the first quarter. The Wasps hit two free throws with 13 seconds left to take the lead 11-10 at the end of the first quarter.

Over the first 2:20 in the second quarter, the two teams traded baskets and the score was 15-13. Emory and Henry went up 22-13 with 5:48 remaining. The Eagles used a 7-0 run over the next 1:57 to cut the lea to 22-20. UMW regained the lead, 25-24, on a layup from freshman Claire Mocarski with 1:30 left in the half. The Wasps made a three pointer right before half to take the lead 28-25. Pamlanye and Mocarski led the Eagles with five points each in the first half. 

In the third quarter, UMW cut the lead to 32-30 on a free throw from Martin with 7:02 left. Over the next 6:21, Emory and Henry went on an 18-2 run to push the lead to 50-32. Pamlanye put an end to that run with two made free throws with 21 seconds remaining. The Wasps made a layup before time expired in the third quarter and went up 52-34.

The Wasps gained their largest lead of the night, 58-34, with 8:01 remaining in the game. Meghan Comer made a layup with 6:14 remaining to cut the lead to 58-38. UMW cut the lead to 63-44 with 2:13 left but that was as close as they would get. Emory and Henry closed the game out and won 66-45.

Senior Kendall Parker and Pamlanye both added seven points for the Eagles. The Wasps were led by Myesha Logan who scored 16 points. 

The Eagles shot 24.0% (12-50) from the field, making 3-15 three pointers, and 18-23 free throws. The Wasps shot 42.4% (25-59) from the field, making 3-15 three pointers, and 13-21 free throws. 

UMW will be back in action on Tuesday afternoon as they will take on Lycoming College at 2 p.m. as part of the Cruzin Classic in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.
