Junior Jordan Pamlanye tied a career high 16 points to lead the 21st/24th ranked University of Mary Washington women's basketball team past Lehman College on Saturday afternoon in the Hyatt Place Tipoff Tournament at Ron Rosner Arena. The Eagles are now 1-2 on the season.
The Eagles got out to a fast start on a Tory Martin layup and Mckenzie Jenkins three pointer to make it 5-0 one minute into the game. The Eagles pushed the lead to 11-6 with 5:32 left in the 1st quarter on Pamlanye's first two points of the game. A Madison Shifflett three pointer put gave the Eagles a 20-13 lead going into the second quarter.
UMW grabbed their largest lead of the first half on a Kendall Parker three pointer to make the score 27-13. Lehman then proceeded to go on a quick 17-5 run in a span of 5:03 to bring the score to 32-30. The Eagles took a 34-31 lead into halftime.
Lehman jumped out of the gates in the second half and scored eight straight points to take the lead 39-34. UMW responded with an 11-0 run to regain the lead 45-39 on a Corianna Calloway free throw. The Eagles pushed the lead to 51-41 on two free throws from Meghan Comer to end the 3rd quarter.
In the 4th quarter, the two teams traded buckets to start out. A made jump shot from Jordan Pamlanye sparked a 9-0 run to give the Eagles a 62-48 lead. UMW would close out the game by scoring 21 in the fourth quarter.
Shifflett chipped in 15 points and 11 rebounds to record her 1st career double-double. Parker drained four three pointers to score 14 points. Senior Taylor Barton grabbed 15 rebounds. Pamlanye added seven assist and six rebounds to her 16 points.
UMW shot 39.4% (26-66) from the field, making 7-23 three pointers and 13-21 free throws. Lehman shot 35.2% (19-54) from the field, making 5-13 three pointers and 15-25 free throws.
The Eagles will be back in action on Tuesday night as they travel to Lynchburg for a tip off set for 7 p.m.
