Junior guard Kendall Parker scored a new Capital Athletic Conference record 27 points - all on three point baskets - to lead the eighth ranked University of Mary Washington women's basketball team to a 63-52 victory at Frostburg State University on Saturday afternoon at Bobcat Arena. The Eagles improve to 20-1 overall, surpassing 20 wins for the 13th time in Coach Deena Applebury's 14 year tenure, and 13-1 in Capital Athletic Conference play.

The Eagles seized control in the first quarter. After Frostburg scored first, UMW limited the Bobcats to just two more points in the stanza, scoring 14. Parker and senior guard Megan Green each hit a pair of three pointers to account for 12 of the points.

Frostburg came back strongly in the second, scoring 25 points. Parker hit a pair of three pointers to start the quarter to give the Eagles a 21-7 advantage, and after an FSU three, connected on another to push the score to 24-10.

A 16-5 Bobcat run trimmed the margin to 29-26 with 1:32 left before halftime, and after a Green jumper, FSU closed with a three point play to cut the halftime score to 31-29.

The Eagles defensive adjustments at halftime again proved crucial, as UMW limited Frostburg to six third quarter points. Senior Brianne Comden scored a pair of baskets early on, as UMW led, 35-33, and a pair of Parker threes pushed the lead to eight, at 41-33, with 4:46 to go. Another Parker three capped the third with seven seconds left, and UMW held a 48-35 lead heading to the fourth quarter.

The Eagles held FSU at arm's length throughout the fourth, with a pair of late FSU three pointers pulling the margin to 10.

Parker made 9-15 shots, all three pointers. Her nine makes and 15 attempts are both single game school records. Elizabeth Dofflemyer had seven points and a game-high 12 rebounds, while Comden scored nineGreen eight, and Taylor Barton seven.

UMW shot 39.7% from the field (23-58), making 12-29 three point tries and 5-9 free throws. Frostburg shot 33.9% (20-59), and made 7-21 three point tries and 5-9 free throws. The Eagles controlled the boards, 47-31.

The Eagles will return to action on Wednesday when they host St. Mary's College at 6:00 p.m. in another CAC contest.
