The 12th ranked University of Mary Washington women's basketball team overcame early offensive struggles and a halftime deficit behind 26 points - including 19 in the fourth quarter - from junior Kendall Parker in downing Penn State Harrisburg, 67-50, on Saturday in Harrisburg. The Eagles improve to 13-0 overall, and 6-0 in Capital Athletic Conference action.

Both teams struggled from the field in the first quarter, as UMW made just 2-11 field goals, but Harrisburg shot 3-14, and the Eagles held an 11-10 lead after one quarter of play.

In the second, Harrisburg struck for 17 points, while the Eagles warmed up a bit to 4-10 shooting, but the hosts carried a 27-22 advantage to halftime.

The Eagles continued to cut at the deficit in the third quarter, as senior Megan Green opened the frame with a three pointer, and consecutive baskets from senior Brianne Comden and sophomore Elizabeth Dofflemyer gave UMW the lead for the first time in the half at 29-27 with 6:44 left in the third.

The lead would change hands five times with the next five baskets of the game, with the Lions holding a 35-34 edge entering the fourth thanks to a late three pointer.

After PSU hit a jumper to open the fourth, Parker stepped up in a major way, starting her run with a traditional three point play to tie the score at 37-37 with 9:36 to go. Comden made a free throw and Parker hit a three-pointer to give UMW a 41-37 lead, before PSU answered with a pair of free throws and a layup to regain a tie at 41-41.

Parker hit a three pointer and Comden followed with a basket before the Lions hit a three of their own to cut the lead to 46-44 with 6:11 remaining, and hit a pair of free throws to knot the score again with 5:35 left.

Parker once again hit a three with 5:22 to go, and, after the teams traded baskets, Green hit another triple to push UMW's lead to 54-48 with 3:48 left. Another Parker three lifted the lead to 58-50, and UMW made 9-12 free throws down the stretch for the 67-50 victory.

Parker made 7-13 shots, including 5-8 three pointers (4-4 in the fourth), and made all seven of her free throw attempts en route to her 26 points. Comden recorded a double double with 16 points and 10 rebounds, while Dofflemyer scored 10 points and grabbed seven rebounds. Green posted nine points, four rebounds, four assists, and four steals.

UMW shot 19-46 from the floor (41.3%), making 8-17 three point tries, and 21-36 free throws. Harrisburg shot 28.8% (17-59), making 7-27 three point attempts and 9-13 free throws. The Eagles held a 42-40 rebounding edge.

The Eagles will return to action on Wednesday night when they visit Southern Virginia University at 6:00 p.m. in another CAC matchup.
