Junior guard Kendall Parker scored 26 points in 22 minutes off the bench to lead the 12th ranked University of Mary Washington women's basketball team to a 59-44 victory over Salisbury University on Thursday night at Ron Rosner Arena. The Eagles improve to 12-0 overall, and 5-0 in Capital Athletic Conference play.

The Eagles grabbed the lead early, scoring the first four points, and gradually built the lead to eight at 14-6 with 1:43 left in the first, as Parker scored her seventh and eighth points of the frame on a jumper. Salisbury answered with a three pointer, but senior Brianne Comden added a pair of free throws to give UMW a 16-9 lead after one quarter.

In the second, Salisbury opened with a run to trim the margin to 19-17 with 7:24 to go, but Parker scored nine straight UMW points, and the Eagle lead swelled to 13 on a pair of Comden free throws, 30-17, with 3:35 left.

A pair of Comden layups continued the run to give UMW a 34-17 lead, but Salisbury closed the second with three points to cut the halftime score to 34-20.

In the third, offense was at a premium on both sides, as the Eagles widened the lead to 36-22 before the Sea Gulls made another run that cut the score to 39-30 entering the fourth.

A pair of layups from sophomore Meghan Comer and a pair of Parker three pointers upped the UMW advantage to 51-35 with 5:38 left, and Salisbury would pull no closer than 13 down the stretch as the Eagles claimed the 15-point win.

Parker shot 8-16 from the floor, including 5-8 on three pointers and went 5-5 from the free throw line en route to her 26 points, as the only Eagle in double figures. Comden had eight points, and Comer added six, while Taylor Barton grabbed nine rebounds, and Elizabeth Dofflemyer eight.

UMW shot 22-48 from the field (45.8%) including a 6-9 performance in the second quarter. The Eagles made 6-13 three point attempts, and made all nine of their free throw attempts. Salisbury shot 31.4% (16-51), making 5-19 three point tries, and 7-10 free throws. UMW outrebounded the Sea Gulls, 35-28.

Mary Washington will be back in action on Saturday when they visit Penn State Harrisburg at 1:00 p.m. in another CAC contest.
