Junior guard Kendall Parker scored a game-high 25 points, including 13 in the first quarter, as the 14th ranked University of Mary Washington women's basketball defeated Emory & Henry College, 60-38, on Saturday afternoon at Ron Rosner Arena. The Eagles improve to 9-0, while the Wasps fall to 6-2.

Emory & Henry jumped ahead early, 5-2, but a Megan Green layup kickstarted a 14-0 run for UMW, with Parker burying three 3-pointers as well as connecting on a traditional three point play, giving UMW a 16-5 lead with 4:14 left in the first quarter.

The Eagles led, 19-8, thanks to a Taylor Barton layup, but the Wasps scored the last three of the quarter to trim the deficit to 19-11 after 10 minutes.

Both offenses stalled in the second quarter, as the defenses took over. Emory & Henry shot 2-11 from the floor, while the Eagles made 2-8 shots but suffered a bout with turnovers, and UMW saw its halftime advantage trimmed to 24-20.

Both teams responded offensively after the break, with UMW outscoring the guests, 22-13, in the third. After E&H connected on a free throw to start the period, UMW scored eight straight, keyed by three each from Elizabeth Dofflemyer and Brianne Comden, to lead, 32-21, with 7:18 left.

The Wasps again trimmed the margin to six, but Parker hit another three with 5:37 to go to return the lead to nine, 35-26. An 11-3 run to close the third gave the Eagles a 46-35 lead entering the fourth. Green hit a pair of three pionters in the run.

Parker hit another triple to start the final quarter, and was followed by a Comden layup, to put the matter to rest. Comden added two free throws and a layup over the next four mintes as the lead reached 20 at 55-35 with 3:33 to play. Emily Thompson's three pointer capped the scoring for the Eagles, with a 60-38 win.

The Eagles shot 47.6% from the floor (20-42), making 10-18 three pointers and 10-13 free throws. Emory & Henry shot 29.5% (13-44), with 4-20 three pointers and 8-14 free throws. The Eagles led in rebounding, 34-25. Both teams committed 24 turnovers.

Parker was the lone player in double figures on either side, shooting 7-11 from the floor, including 6-9 from distance, and 5-7 from the line.

UMW will be back in action on December 28 when they face Brooklyn College in Orlando, Fla., as part of the Land of Magic Classic at 1:00 p.m.
