Senior Brianne Comden registered team highs with 19 points and seven rebounds to lead the 17th ranked University of Mary Washington women's basketball team to a 65-43 victory over Frostburg State University in both teams' Capital Athletic Conference opener. The Eagles improve to 5-0 overall.

Mary Washington opened by outscoring Frostburg, 17-6, in the opening quarter, led by five points from Comden and four from junior Taylor Barton. UMW limited the Bobcats to 3-11 shooting from the floor with six turnovers.

In the second, the Bobcats responded, outscoring UMW, 17-11, to trim the halftime deficit to five, 28-23. FSU connected on a pair of three pointers to cut UMW's lead to three, 19-16, two minutes into the second, but jumpers from Jordan Pamlanye and Barton returned the lead to seven with 5:50 left before intermission.

After Frostburg cut the margin to two points, a free throw from Kelsey Dean and a Pamlanye bucket gave the Eagles a five-point lead, 28-23.

The story of the game was told in the third quarter, as Frostburg scored the first two points on a pair of free throws, and then UMW scored 26 straight points over the next 9:50 to put the game away. Comden scored 10 points in the frame, with sophomore Elizabeth Dofflemyer adding nine. FSU went 0-14 from the floor in the period.

The Bobcats were able to pull to within 21 in the fourth quarter, but UMW kept the margin to win by 22.

In addition to Comden's 19 and seven performance, Barton scored 12 points and Dofflemyer added 11, to go with six rebounds and four steals. Senior guard Megan Green added four points, five rebounds, six assists, and three steals.

UMW shot 45.9% from the field in the game (28-61), making 2-15 three pointers and 7-12 free throws. Frostburg shot 23.8% (15-63), making 6-23 three pointers and 7-10 free throws. UMW held a 52-34 advantage in rebounding.

The Eagles will be back in action on Saturday when they visit York College of Pa at 1:00 in another CAC contest.
