Junior guard Kendall Parker scored a season-high 30 points in 24 minutes off the bench to lead the 20th/22nd ranked University of Mary Washingotn women's basketball team to a 94-45 victory over Alvernia University on Saturday night in the Hyatt Place Tipoff Tournament at the Ron Rosner Arena. The Eagles move to 2-0 on the season.

UMW jumped ahead in the first, thanks to hot shooting and their trademark strong defense. Senior Megan Green scored eight points in the opening 10 minutes and Parker chipped in with nine, as the Eagles shot 10-20 from the floor, making 5-7 three pointers. Alvernia made 4-8 field goals in the first, but UMW forced 10 turnovers to propel themselves to a 26-9 lead to start the second quarter.

In the second, Parker scored 10 points with two more triples, as the Eagles outscored the Crusaders, 20-13, in the quarter. 

The Eagles put the matter out of reach in the third, outscoring Alvernia, 28-8. UMW used a 17-3 run over the final 5:07 of the frame to build the lead to 74-30. Parker scored eight straight in that run, with Kelsey Dean scoring four and freshman Ashley Evans adding a three pointer.

UMW again scored 20 in the fourth, with Dean scoring six in the frame, to reach 14 points as one of three Eagles in doubles figures, with Parker and Green (12).

The Eagles shot 50.8% from the field (32-63), connecting on 11-21 three point attempts, and made 19-23 free throws. Alvernia shot 36.4% from the field (16-44), making 5-22 three pointers and 8-15 free throws. The Eagles led in rebounds, 37-28, and forced 28 turnovers while commiting just 10.

UMW will host Virginia Wesleyan in the championship game of the Hyatt Place Tournament on Sunday at 2:00 p.m. Alvernia will face Averett in the consolation game at noon. Va. Wesleyan hit a three pointer in the waning seconds to top Averett, 64-63, in the opener.
