UMW Women's Basketball Opens 2015-16 Season on Monday at Lynchburg

The University of Mary Washington women’s basketball team will open the 2015-2016 season on Monday as they visit Lynchburg College at 5:00 p.m. The Eagles, who received votes in the D3Hoops.com national preseason poll, were picked to finish first in the CAC by the league's coaches.

The Eagles, coming off a trip to the CAC Championship  and their 10th 20-win season in the past 12 years, welcome back six returners, including three starters. Leading the returners for 13th year head coach Deena Applebury is junior Brianne Comden. A first team all-conference selection as a sophomore, Comden averaged 13.2 PPG, pulled in 6.7 rebounds per contest, and shot 50% from the floor.

Senior Megan Green, who led the team last year with 3.9 APG, returns for the Eagles at the point. Also back is fellow senior Sarah Listenbee, who averaged 4.8 rebounds per contest and reached double figures in scoring in seven games.

Sophomore forward Taylor Barton returns after starting 24 games as a freshman and grabbing 6.9 RPG. Sharper-shooting sophomore Kendall Parker brings experience to the backcourt and aims to build off a strong freshman season. Sophomore Kelsey Dean is back with the Eagles after suffering a season-ending injury early last season.

Newcomers looking to contribute in the backcourt for Coach Applebury include Jordan Pamlanye, McKenzie Jenkins, Courtney Radcliff, Elizabeth Dofflemyer and Meghan Comer. Alannah Miller will add more depth to an already strong Eagle’s frontcourt.
