The University of Mary Washington women's basketball team shot a blazing 51.7% from the floor in downing Randolph College, 73-32, on Friday night in the first round of the Hyatt Place Tipoff Tournament at Ron Rosner Arena at the William Anderson Center. The Eagles improve to 2-0 on the season, and will face Meredith College on Saturday for the tourney championship at 2:00 p.m.

UMW started red hot, shooting 59.4% from the field in the first half (19-32), while limiting the Wildcats to 7-28 shooting. The Eagles used five points from senior Sarah Listenbee in the opening minutes to build a 13-1 lead, and led, 26-5, after one quarter.

In the second, freshman Elizabeth Dofflemyer scored six points to open the frame, as the Eagles extended the lead to 38-12 with 4:58 left in the second. A late three pointer from Kendall Parker and a Listenbee jumper capped the scoring to give UMW a 44-19 halftime advantage.

UMW's depth showed itself in the third, as the Eagles saw senior guard Megan Green score six points to lead five players in the scoring column as the lead grew to 37, at 61-24, after three quarters.

The Eagles held the lead in the fourth, as Brianne Comden scored four points to lead four players scoring, as UMW pulled away for a 73-32 win.

Listenbee led the Eagles with 13 points on 6-8 shooting, while Green scored 12 points and added eight assists, five rebounds, and three steals. Comden achieved a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Randolph was led by Rebecca Harvey's 11 points.

The Eagles shot 51.7% from the field (31-60), making 3015 three pointers and 8-18 free throws. Randolph shot 19.6% (10-51), with 3-11 on three pointers and 9-16 on free throws. UMW led in rebounding, 51-32, and forced 25 RC turnovers.

The UMW Women's Basketball team dedicated their home opener to Lauren Hill, a DIII women's basketball player from Ohio who was diagnosed with terminal brain cancer. The team honored Lauren's legacy to DIII athletics prior to the start of the game with a ceremonial left-handed layup by #22 Taylor Barton. The program raised money and awareness for The Cure Starts Now Foundation in Lauren's name. A representative from the organization was on hand for the game.
