UMW's Brianne Comden Named CAC Women's Basketball Player of the Week

YORK, Pa. -- Mary Washington sophomore Brianne Comden was named the CAC Women's Basketball Player of the Week for Jan. 5, 2014.

Mary Washington sophomore center Brianne Comden was selected as the CAC Player of the Week after leading the Eagles to a 2-1 record last week, including a CAC victory over Marymount in a battle of unbeatens in conference play. Comden was named to the all-tournament team at the Catholic University Fairfield Inn Holiday Tournament, and then led UMW with 12 points as the Eagles downed Marymount, 47-37, to remain unbeaten in CAC play. She scored 17 points in a 59-58 win over Misericordia, and then added 14 in a 53-48 loss at Catholic. During the week she shot 18-of-29 from the floor (62.1%) while adding 4.7 rebounds per contest as the Eagles improved to 7-3 overall and 4-0 in CAC play.

NOTES AROUND THE CONFERENCE

Mary Washington and Salisbury remain the only unbeatens in CAC play at 4-0 ... Salisbury is ranked 20th in the WBCA/USA TODAY Top-25 and 21st D3hoops.com rankings ... Christopher Newport's Camry Green broke into the 1,000-point club with her first bucket against York on Saturday, becoming the 26th player in program history to surpass the 1,000-point mark. Green also set a career high with 19 rebounds and finished with her ninth double-double of the season, which ranks top five nationally in the category. She now ranks 13th among active players across all NCAA divisions with 38 career double-doubles ... Kerri Kline helped St. Mary's to its first win of the season as Kline dropped a team-best 16 points while adding season-bests of eight rebounds and three assists in a win over Penn State Harrisburg ... Salisbury senior Anna Hackett leads the CAC in points per game (19.2) and free-throw percentage (86.6%). With a game-high six assists against Southern Virginia on Saturday, Hackett moved up to No. 4 in program history in career assists with 418 ... Wesley's Brionna Johnson scored a game-high 21 points and 18 rebounds in the Wolverines' win over Frostburg State on Sunday. At 7-4 overall, Wesley has its most wins since the 2010-11 season.
