Balanced Attack Leads UMW Women's Basketball Past Penn State Harrisburg, 82-52

Senior Caitlin Ciniero scored 14 points and added 13 rebounds, and sophomore Brianne Comden added 17 points and seven rebounds to lead four players in double figures as the University of Mary Washington women's basketball team defeated Penn State Harrisburg, 82-52, on Saturday at the Anderson Center.

With the score tied at 7-7 early on, UMW scored eight straight points, including a pair of Ciniero baskets, to lead, 15-7, with 16:37 left in the half. The Lions answered with an 11-2 run to take the lead at 18-17 with 13:18 left, but senior Claire Haeuptle scored nine straight Eagle points to give UMW a 29-21 lead with 6:00 remaining.

Freshman Kendall Parker then scored six straight to give UMW a 35-25 advantage,as the Eagles closed the first half on a 12-0 run to lead, 45-25, at halftime.

The Eagles built the lead to as many as 33 in the second half, as a Sarah Listenbee jumper lifted the lead to 62-29 with 12:28 to play. The Eagles led by at least 25 the rest of the way, as senior Erin Drumheller's three point play in the final minute capping the scoring at 82-52.

Comden led all scorers with 17 points on 8-12 shooting from the field, while Cioniero went 4-9 from the field and 6-10 from the line, and grabbed 13 rebounds, including nine on the offensive end, en route to 14 and 13. Haeuptle added 13 points, and Drumheller scored 10.

The Eagles shot 45.3% from the field (29-64), making 4-14 three point attempts, and went 20-30 from the free throw line. Penn State Harrisburg shot 40.4% (19-47), making 9-26 three pointers, and went 5-7 from the line. The Eagles led in rebounds, 44-29, and caused 25 Lion turnovers.

The Eagles will return to action on Wednesday evening in the regular season home finale, hosting Southern Virginia University at 6:00 p.m.
