Three players reached double figures as the University of Mary Washington women's basketball team turned in another solid defensive effort, limiting host St. Mary's to 14 second half points in a 79-40 win over the Seahawks on Saturday in Capital Athletic Conference action. The Eagles improve to 5-2 overall and 3-0 in CAC play.

The Eagles never trailed, jumping ahead with a Claire Haeuptle three pointer, followed by a Brianne Comden layup, and never looked back. The Eagles ran the lead to double figures on a Kendall Parker three pointer with 12:01 remaining in the half, pushing the score to 18-7, and the Eagles held the double-digit lead until the Seahawks made a run to close the gap to three, at 21-18, with 6:39 to go in the half.

Sparked by a pair of baskets from Sarah Listenbee and a three pointer from senior Erin Drumheller, the Eagles held a nine-point lead at halftime, 35-26.

In the second half, it was all UMW, as the Seahawks shot just 4-25 from the floor and 5-11 from the free throw line. The Eagles started the half on a 13-1 run, and led, 48-27 with 13:33 left. Six different players scored in the run.

The Eagles pushed the lead to 30 with 9:33 remaining on a Kayla Parks basket, and Parker scored nine points down the stretch for the victory.

The Eagles were led by Comden, who had 12 points and seven rebounds, and Parker, who scored 12. Also in double figures was Drumheller, who scored 11 and had three steals. The Eagle bench scored 38 points in the game.

UMW shot 40.3% from the field (27-67), making 7-15 three pointers, and went 18-26 from the free throw line. St. Mary's shot 25% (13-52), with six three pointers, and went 8-16 from the line. The Eagles dominated the boards, 55-32, and forced 16 SMC turnovers.

UMW will be idle until December 29 when they face Misericordia in Washington, D.C. in the Catholic University Holdiay Tournament at 3:00 p.m.
