University of Mary Washington women's basketball head coach Deena Applebury and Director of Athletics Ken Tyler have accepted the Chillin4Charity Challenge, getting doused with a bucket of ice water and becoming the latest to donate to the Kay Yow Fund in raising funds for cancer research.

The challenge, which has swept through women's basketball, reached Fredericksburg on Thursday, as Applebury and Tyler accepted the challenge, which includes a monetary donation to the Kay Yow cancer research fund, and also an ice-cold bucket of water.

"I'm very happy and honored to accept Coach Applebury's challenge in the Chillin 4 Charity Challenge and this terrific cause", said Tyler, prior to his dousing. "The Kay Yow Fund has done a great deal of good work for many years in the fight against cancer, and in combination with the Jimmy V Fund for cancer research and the Coaches Vs. Cancer initiative... We're very pleased and honored to be a part of it."

In addition to donating to the Kay Yow and Jimmy Funds, the UMW Department of Athletics will also make donations to the UMW Department of Chemistry and Biology. Applebury, who accepted the challenge of York (Pa.) head coach Betsy Witman, in turn challenged St. Mary's College head coach Crystal Gibson. Tyler then challenged Christopher Newport University athletic director Todd Brooks.
