Three Hit Double Figures, as Eagles Close Out Regular Season with 69-49 Win at Penn State-Harrisburg

Middletown, Pa.-- The University of Mary Washington women's basketball team closed out the regular season with a 69-49 win at Penn State-Harrisburg on Saturday. Three Eagles hit double figures, with Brianne Comden leading the way at 15. The Eagles finish the season with an 18-7, 10-6 CAC record.

UMW jumped out ahead 13-3 thanks in part to six points from senior Aby Diop. The Eagles never trailed in the half, and extended their lead to 23 to end the half, after a run the ended with a Brie Matthes three at the end of the half.

Mary Washington gave up just two buckets, forcing the Lions to shoot 2-19 (10.5%) in the opening half, and also forced 17 turnovers. Aby Diop had ten points in the first half, adding one rebound on 4-5 shooting. Aubrey Howland had seven points, adding four caroms. Sarah Listenbee came off the bench for six points and four boards for the Eagles, who shot 37.9% from the field in the half.

Sam Partonen came out and hit a jumper on the first possesion of the second half, to increase the lead to 25. The lead got up to 26 following a pair of Listenbee layups. Matthes and Partonen each hit threes during the spurt to make the lead 52-26. The Eagles closed the half on a 6-0 run, with Claire Haeuptle knocking down a pair of free throws to close the game with a 69-49 win.

UMW was led by Brianne Comden and her 15 points. Comden as added six rebounds on 6-10 shooting. Diop and Howland also hit double digits with 11 and ten respectively. Diop added three boards and one assist, while Howland had six boards and two blocks. The Eagles shot 44.4% from the field.

Kaitlyn Carmo led all scorer with 17 for the Lions.

With Marymount's win over Christopher Newport today, the Eagles clinch the 5th seed in the upcoming CAC Tournament. The Eagles will travel to Marymount on Tuesday for the quarterfinal round at 7:00 p.m.
