UMW Women's Basketball Completes Perfect Trip to San Juan, Edges Alvernia, 49-44

Senior guard Sam Partonen scored 10 points and added six rebounds to lead the University of Mary Washington women's basketball team to a 49-44 win over Alvernia University in San Juan, Puerto Rico on Friday evening. The Eagles improve to 7-2 on the season.

In addition to Partonen's efforts, UMW outrebounded Alvernia, 43-30, and shot a collective 10-12 from the free throw line. Aubrey Howland scored six points and grabbed 10 rebounds, Brieneke Matthes scored eight and added five boards, and Aby Diop scored six and added eight rebounds for the Eagles.

UMW had a 10-10 assist to turnover ratio, and forced 14 turnovers.

The Eagles will next play on January 4 when they host York College at 1:00 p.m.
