Eagles Drop Close One to Marymount (Va.), 54-45, on Saturday

Arlington, Va.-- Three Eagles were in double figures, lead by Sam Partonen's 12 points, but it wasn't enough, as UMW fell to the Saints on Saturday. Alongside Partonen, Brianne Comden (10) and Megan Green (11) hit double digits.

Marymount jumped out early, using an 8-2 run to get ahead. Partonen had two of her 12 points during that span. UMW tried to come back, cutting the lead down to 13-8. Comden and Aby Diop hit jumpers to pace the Eagles durning the run. From there, the Saints never saw their lead go below three, and took a 26-22 lead into the break.

UMW came out the the break hitting two layups from Comden and Aubrey Howland to tie the game at 26 all. Using an 4-0 run a little later, the Eagles took the lead at 32-28 thanks to a couple of Claire Haeuptle free throws and a Partonen jumper. 

The Eagles kept the lead until the Saints roared back. Marymount regained the lead thanks in part to a 4-0 run by Miranda Krott. Krott hit two free throws and a layup to take a 38-36 lead.

Marymount used an 8-2 run over the final four minutes to come away with a 54-45 win on Saturday. The loss drops the Eagles to 4-2, 1-1 CAC on the year.

Partonen led the way for the Eagles with 12 points. Sam added four rebounds and four helpers on the day. Megan Green came off the bench for 11 big points and two thefts. Comden added ten points and six boards on Saturday. Krott led Marymount with 12 points.

The Eagles return to action on Saturday, December 14th. UMW hosts St. Mary's (Md.) in CAC action from the Anderson Center. Tipoff is at 1:00 p.m.
