UMW Women's Basketball Falls at Marymount, 58-43

The University of Mary Washington women's basketball team dropped a 58-43 decision at Marymount University on Wednesday night in Capital Athletic Conference action in Arlington. The Eagles fall to 9-5 overall, and 2-1 in league play.

The Eagles held onto a slim lead in the early going, leading 8-7 with 13:06 left in the first half. After three scoreless minutes, the Saints hit a three pointer to take the lead, and extended the lead to six at 14-8 on a pair of layups. Another 7-0 run by the Saints increased the lead to nine at 21-12 with 5:09 remaining. A three pointer from Amanda Witmer cut the deficit to six, and the Saints led by eight at halftime, 26-18.

A pair of Carol Dye layups cut the deficit to six to start the second half, but the Saints lead swelled to 10 with five minutes elapsed, and to 15 with 8:05 left. From there, the Eagles weren't able to get closer than 11 down with 2:06 left on an Aubrey Howland basket.

Witmer and Sam Partonen led the Eagles with 11 points each, while Dye scored six. The Eagles shot 35.4% from the floor (17-48), while Marymount shot 47.9% (23-48). The Saints held a 37-25 advantage in rebounds, including 15 offensive caroms. Katelyn Fischer led Marymount with 22 points.

The Eagles will return to action on Saturday when they visit Salisbury University in another CAC contest.
