Wimmer, McRae Lead UMW Women's Basketball Past Frostburg, 51-46

Junior all-conference guards Katie Wimmer (Vienna, Va., James Madison) and Jenna McRae (Springfield, Va., Annandale) combined to score 37 points, and the Eagle defense limited Frostburg State University to just 13 second half points as the University of Mary Washington women's basketball team defeated Frostburg State University, 51-46, on Friday night. The Eagles, who extend their win streak to four, also move to 2-0 in Capital Athletic Conference play.

The Eagles started red hot, assuming a 12-2 lead by connecting on their first five shots. But UMW went ice cold after that in the first half, and trailed, 33-26, at halftime. Wimmer scored 19 points on 7-11 shooting, while McRae added 18 points on an 8-16 effort from the floor, as the Eagles went on a 23-4 run to start the second half, and held on at the end for the five-point win.

The Eagles shot 39% from the floor, making 3-6 three point attempts, while Frostburg shot 36% (17-47). UMW held a 39-26 rebounding edge. Freshman Sam Partonen (Burke, Va., Robinson) had eight rebounds and five assists for the Eagles, who will host Marymount University on December 11 at 2:00 p.m. in another Capital Athletic Conference matchup, which will be a rematch of last season's CAC Championship.
